![]() You cannot turn it off, but you can make it as unobtrusive as possible by using legacy settings. 8.x builds off of this but is still slow on PPC Macs.įinally some people have been tripped up by the fact that v7.x is the first version that forces the use of color management. 7.x supports unicode as well as extended character sets. 7.x had the type engine completely rewritten which has created slowdown issues for PPC Macs, but not Intel Macs. It does not have support for dfonts and any font set that has more than 256 glyps gets those above 256 ignored. But it's always best with version 7.x or above to make a new file of the same size and simply append the layout of the legacy document (as of 7.x you can append layouts now). XPress 7.x is not supported on Snow Leopard.īoth versions 7.x and 8.x have a keyboard combination that will allow you to update the architechture of legacy documents when you open them. You can upgrade to Snow Leopard if you like, but you will have to purchase version 8.x if you want any support from Quark. ![]() There are always issues with the lesser version numbers so if your copy is something like 7.01 then just update it to 7.5 on the Intel Mac. 7.31 is the first version certified to run on Intel Macs. You have version 7.x Version 7.x is certified to run on Leopard. Giving the bugginess it has with Leopard you have to be prepared for it to forget all the time. You have to tell XPress 6.5 via the Utility menu where to find the new location. XPress 6.5, is still looking for it in the old location. Part of the issue here is that Apple relocated the default PPD printer driver location. None of these problems could be replicated with any reliability to be fixed (and Quark is not going to fix them as 8.x is their concentration now) as they were so random and unpredicatble.Īs to the PPDs. So, on top of buggy problems with Leoaprd to begin with you have to add in translation issues from Rosetta. It's not certified to work in Leopard, particularly on Intel Macs as 6.x was made with the older PPC code for the Motorola G3, G4, and G5 chipset. First off, 6.x was released in 2003 for Jaguar. So what are the issues being faced with Quark 8 and OS 10.5.8, and is moving to Snow Leopard (10.6) a better solution. Also, I am reading problems with Quark 6.5 files opening in Quark 8 with text reflowing and boxes moving around. I have always used Quark and want to continue using it for my graphic design work (self employed graphic designer) but I cannot do so if I can not print. Same fonts and files transfered to 10.5.8 machine will not work, same files converted to InDesign work fine in either computer. If I upgrade to Quark 8 and install it on my OSX 10.5.8 machine will these PPD and printing problems be resolved? Are they compatible? I know the file and fonts are OK because my Mac laptop which runs on 10.4 opens and prints the file in Quark 6.5 OK and prints just fine. Now I am being FORCED to work with system 10.5.8 so I HAVE TO FIX THESE QUARK problems. I had purchased Quark 7 a while back and had so many problems with it that I just took it off and continued with 6.5. Problems with PPDs, also with fonts being substituted when I print to either a PDF or printer. I am having many problems with Quark 6.5 (tried upgrading to 6.5.2 with no difference). My computer's HD crashed and I have had to use my back up Intel iMac which has system 10.5.8 (came with it and cannot go down to 10.4). This issue has been resolved. My main Intel iMac was running system 10.4 and I was using Quark 6.5 with no problems.
